Community

Around 70% of Australia’s
population live in urban
areas and our cities are
increasingly densifying.

In these areas people seek convenient shopping, access to services and the public realm without the need to jump in their car or on public transport. New developments must speak to these trends and deliver sustainable projects that improve amenity and increase liveability for these communities for many years to come.

Woolworths is always looking at how we can best serve our customers and our mixed-use developments are an example of responding to the changes we are seeing in our cities and the urban lifestyle people are demanding. They ensure the greatest design, retail and amenity outcome can be built on each site.

Our developments mix the new supply of architecturally designed apartment living with the services, retail and community infrastructure that make for liveable places. These developments ensure people can shop, work and enjoy themselves all within a close proximity to where they live.

Listening to your priorities

Through direct engagement with over 400 local residents, we gained insight into the community’s top priorities and the feedback was invaluable. It has been central to shaping every aspect of our plan, from architectural design to landscaping and amenities. We are grateful to each resident who took the time to share their thoughts—your input has truly shaped this vision.

  • Specialty retail and open space

We’ve carefully designed a retail plaza with approximately 10 specialty shops that complement the new full-line Woolworths, creating a people- and pet-friendly area. Outdoor seating, green spaces, and shaded areas provide a welcoming setting to meet, relax, and enjoy a vibrant shopping experience.

  • Quality Living

With 110 thoughtfully designed apartments—ranging from studios to three-bedroom homes—this development offers diverse housing options. In line with Council’s Affordable Housing strategy, we’re including homes tailored for key workers and eligible households. Every apartment has been designed to maximise natural light and ventilation, with a landscaped courtyard offering communal space for residents.

  • Thoughtful Spaces

We’ve heard the need for improved streetscapes and have prioritised the retention of mature street trees to maintain the character of Bourke, McEvoy, and Young Streets. A rooftop garden on the commercial building will provide additional green space, envisioned as a potential resource for local educational or cultural programs.

How we engage with our community

Our community engagement approach is comprehensive, using multiple channels to reach as many residents as possible. We consulted on building heights and heard support for the project along with key themes of traffic impacts and building heights which have informed the design in front of you today.
